Plain-language rental rules

The terms that matter before you drive

Driver eligibility, CDW/FDW, road use, incident reporting, vehicle return and one-way arrangements should be understood before the vehicle is collected.

Chania road and seafront in Crete
Rental conditions apply across the trip, whether the pickup is at CHQ, a hotel, a port or a supported one-way location.

1. Rental period and dates

The minimum rental duration is two days. The pickup and return dates/times shown in the confirmed booking define the contracted period. If you need to change a return time or date, request the change rather than assuming the vehicle can simply be kept longer.

The quote calendar automatically prevents a return date earlier than pickup plus two days, but the confirmed booking remains the final reference for the agreed period.

2. Driver age, licence and authorised drivers

The standard minimum driver age is 21, with vehicle-specific eligibility possible. Every driver must be accepted for the confirmed vehicle type, hold the required valid original driving licence and identification, and be listed on the rental agreement before driving.

A second eligible driver can be included without an extra daily driver fee. That does not authorise an undeclared person to drive the vehicle.

3. Basic CDW — included insurance baseline

Basic Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is included in the rental price. CDW can carry an excess for covered damage. The applicable excess and confirmed vehicle terms should be read together.

No rental security deposit is blocked on a credit card. The deposit policy is separate from the CDW excess.

4. Optional full insurance (FDW) +€12/day

FDW is optional at +€12 for each rental day. It reduces the excess to zero for damage that is covered under the FDW terms. Zero excess does not mean every type of damage or every use of the vehicle becomes covered.

Important: coverage depends on permitted use and the stated exclusions. Off-road use, tyres/wheels, underside damage and other excluded circumstances should not be assumed covered by FDW.

5. Permitted road use

The vehicle is intended for lawful use on permitted public roads. Off-road driving is excluded. A navigation app, travel blog or destination photo does not change the rental agreement or make an unsuitable/unpaved access route permitted.

An SUV body style does not create off-road permission. If you are uncertain about a route, ask before using it.

6. Tyres, wheels, underside and excluded areas

Tyres, wheels, underside damage and other exclusions stated in the confirmed rental conditions remain outside normal zero-excess wording unless the agreement explicitly says otherwise. Drive in a way that respects the vehicle, road conditions and agreed use.

7. Traffic-law and prohibited-use consequences

Insurance protection depends on legal and permitted use. Driving under the influence, serious traffic-law violations, unauthorised drivers or other prohibited uses can affect or invalidate normal insurance protection.

The safest interpretation is simple: the rental vehicle must be used lawfully, by authorised drivers, on permitted roads and according to the agreement.

8. Damage, accident or incident reporting

If damage, an accident, theft-related event, warning light or another significant incident occurs, contact the rental provider promptly and follow the reporting instructions. Do not wait silently until return when the terms require notification.

Where police or other authorities are required by the incident circumstances or instructions, follow the applicable process and preserve relevant information.

9. Vehicle model and “or similar”

Model names on the site are examples that communicate vehicle size, transmission and use case. The confirmed vehicle may be the selected model or a similar equivalent unless an exact model is specifically confirmed in writing.

If a feature is non-negotiable — for example automatic transmission, seven seats, nine seats or a specific luggage requirement — state that requirement explicitly.

10. Pickup, delivery and one-way return

Pickup/return can be requested at Chania Airport, Chania city/Old Town, supported hotels/villas, Souda Port and other listed Chania-area locations. Rethymno and Heraklion Airport/Port can be requested as supported delivery or one-way locations from the Chania base.

Different-location return must be agreed in advance. Any applicable delivery or one-way charge is confirmed before booking and is separate from the vehicle rate and insurance.

11. Fuel, keys, cleanliness and return condition

The vehicle should be returned according to the fuel and return-condition instructions provided at handover. Lost keys, unusual cleaning requirements or damage caused by misuse can be treated separately from ordinary rental use according to the confirmed agreement.

12. What the written quote should confirm

Check these before you confirm

  1. Pickup and return dates, times and exact locations.
  2. Requested car type and transmission.
  3. Driver age/eligibility and second driver if applicable.
  4. CDW or optional FDW selection.
  5. Total price and any delivery/one-way fee.
  6. Extras such as baby seat.
  7. Any specific exact-model or luggage requirement that has been accepted.
