Choose an SUV for space and comfort — not to bypass road-use rules
Automatic SUV options can be requested for five-seat comfort and extra luggage flexibility. The SUV body style does not permit off-road driving or excluded access routes.
Who this option is useful for
Choose an SUV for automatic transmission, cabin comfort and luggage room—not for off-road access, which remains excluded.
Automatic transmission
The SUV option is requested as automatic.
Five-seat comfort
Useful for travellers who value cabin space and luggage flexibility.
Road rules unchanged
SUV does not mean 4x4 permission or off-road authorisation.
One-way possible
A Chania-to-Heraklion return can be requested with SUV availability checked at the same time.
Who benefits most from an SUV
An SUV is usually chosen for cabin comfort, easier loading and a higher seating position rather than because the journey requires off-road capability. It can suit couples with substantial luggage, families or travellers making a longer island itinerary.
If the main goal is simply automatic transmission and the luggage is modest, a compact automatic can be a more economical alternative.
Road-use restrictions still apply
Rental agreements define where the vehicle can be driven. A vehicle that looks rugged does not remove restrictions on off-road use, unsuitable access roads or other excluded use.
This matters around popular Crete destinations where maps or online comments may describe unpaved approaches. Ask about permitted access instead of assuming an SUV changes the contract.
Luggage planning
Five seats do not automatically mean room for five large suitcases. If the SUV will carry four or five adults, provide the bag count and any stroller or child-seat needs with the quote.
The rental recommendation can then be based on actual occupancy rather than only the marketing category.
SUV for airport and one-way trips
SUV pickup can be requested at Chania Airport, city/hotel points or other supported locations. For a Heraklion return, vehicle availability and one-way logistics need to be checked together.
The final quote should state the exact requested type, automatic transmission, insurance and return location.
What changes the final quote
The published starting rates help compare vehicle types, but the confirmed total depends on the exact dates, rental duration, vehicle type and transmission, availability, insurance choice, pickup/return locations and any special delivery or one-way logistics.
Basic insurance (CDW) is included. Optional full insurance (FDW) is +€12 per rental day and reduces the excess to zero for covered damage, subject to exclusions. No credit card is required and no rental security deposit is blocked. Any applicable delivery or one-way fee is confirmed with the quote.
For the most accurate quote, send:
- Pickup and return dates plus the real handover times.
- Exact pickup and return locations, including airport, port or accommodation name where relevant.
- The car type and transmission you need.
- Driver age and any second-driver requirement.
- CDW or optional FDW preference.
- Passenger count, large luggage count and any child-seat need.
- Flight or ferry information when it affects the handover.
